SepticFormula was built to fill that gap. Every article on this site is grounded in primary sources — EPA publications, university extension research, and peer-reviewed studies — and written in plain English for homeowners, not engineers.
We cover septic tank treatment, maintenance schedules, odor diagnosis, product reviews, and original research on the septic industry. Our goal is to give you the knowledge to protect your system, extend its life, and avoid expensive emergency repairs.
Our Editorial Standards
Every factual claim on SepticFormula is sourced and linked to its primary reference. We do not republish manufacturer claims as facts. When a product makes a claim that has not been independently verified — such as a specific CFU count or a comparative efficacy claim — we say so explicitly.
Our product reviews follow a consistent framework: we evaluate the mechanism of action against available science, we disclose the limitations of the evidence base, and we include honest cons alongside any pros. We do not review products we cannot honestly recommend.
